What is Stamping?

Stamping is a forming and processing method that applies external forces to plates, strips, pipes and profiles by means of presses and dies to produce plastic deformation or separation, so as to obtain the workpiece (stamping part) with the required shape and size. Stamping and forging belong to plastic processing (or pressure processing), which are collectively called forging. The billets for stamping are mainly hot-rolled and cold-rolled steel plates and strips. 60 ~ 70% of the steel in the world is plate, most of which are made into finished products by stamping. Automobile body, chassis, oil tank, radiator, boiler drum, container shell, motor, electrical iron core silicon steel sheet, etc. are all stamped. There are also a large number of stamping parts in instruments, household appliances, bicycles, office machinery, household utensils and other products.
Stamping processing is the production technology of product parts with certain shape, size and performance by means of the power of conventional or special stamping equipment to make the sheet metal directly subject to deformation force and deform in the mold. Sheet metal, die and equipment are the three elements of stamping processing. According to the stamping processing temperature, it is divided into hot stamping and cold stamping. The former is suitable for sheet metal processing with high deformation resistance and poor plasticity; The latter is carried out at room temperature, which is a common stamping method for thin plates. It is one of the main methods of metal plastic processing (or pressure processing), and also belongs to material forming engineering technology.
The die used for stamping is called stamping die, which is called stamping die for short. Stamping die is a special tool for batch processing materials (metal or non-metal) into required stamping parts. Stamping die is very important in stamping. Without a qualified stamping die, it is difficult to carry out mass stamping production; Without advanced stamping dies, advanced stamping technology cannot be achieved. Stamping process and die, stamping equipment and stamping materials constitute the three elements of stamping processing. Only when they are combined with each other can stamping parts be obtained.
