what is Stamping

Stamping is a forming processing method that applies external force to plates, strips, pipes and profiles by presses and molds to cause plastic deformation or separation to obtain workpieces (stamping parts) of required shape and size. Stamping and forging belong to plastic processing (or pressure processing) and are collectively called forging. The blanks for stamping are mainly hot-rolled and cold-rolled steel sheets and strips. Among the steel products in the world, 60-70% are plates, most of which are stamped into finished products. The body, chassis, fuel tank, radiator fins of the car, the steam drum of the boiler, the shell of the container, the iron core silicon steel sheet of the motor and electrical appliances, etc. are all stamped. There are also a large number of stamping parts in products such as instruments and meters, household appliances, bicycles, office machinery, and living utensils.
Stamping processing is a production technology that uses the power of conventional or special stamping equipment to directly deform the sheet metal in the mold to obtain product parts of a certain shape, size and performance. Sheet metal, mold and equipment are the three elements of stamping processing. According to the stamping processing temperature, it is divided into hot stamping and cold stamping. The former is suitable for sheet metal processing with high deformation resistance and poor plasticity; the latter is carried out at room temperature and is a commonly used stamping method for thin plates. It is one of the main methods of metal plastic processing (or pressure processing), and it also belongs to material forming engineering technology.
The mold used for stamping is called stamping die, or punching die for short. Die is a special tool for mass processing materials (metal or non-metal) into required punching parts. Dies are very important in stamping. Without qualified dies, mass stamping production will be difficult; without advanced dies, advanced stamping technology will not be realized. The stamping process, dies, stamping equipment and stamping materials constitute the three elements of stamping processing. Only when they are combined with each other can stamping parts be obtained.
